Alexander Vargas was 13 years old when he started working with coffee at his neighbour’s farm. He spent many years there planting, stumping, fertilizing, picking the catarrhs of his neighbour who was one of the early adopters of speciality coffee practices in South Huila.

After he turned 20 he got married and inherited two tiny plots of land on which he started his own coffee farm. He wisely saved up for years and in 2008 was able to buy 11 hectares of pasture land next to his neighbour our and mentor. He soon after sold a part of it to build his family house and wet mill. Now in 2024 Alexander manages 14 hectares of coffee and additionally processes the cherries of his neighbours.
